Ah Sing Den, the bar that has replaced East Side Showroom, is now opened with a completely new design and menu of food and drinks.
East Side Showroom made waves when it first opened in 2009 as the visionary cocktail bar from co-founders Mickie and Trudy Spencer — and under the same ownership, Ah Sing Den intends to do the same, albeit with an Asian aesthetic and flavors that draw from Asia, South America and beyond.
Although the name of the new bar is a reference to a London opium den, rest assured that the space is lovely and inviting, with Mickie Spencer’s usual striking design touch. Food items on the menu include shishito peppers, kha pei mussels, tuna avocado poke (you know, that deconstructed sushi roll everyone is talking about) and other Asian-inspired bites.
The drink menu has a similar theme, with a section for sake, Japanese rice wine. Beer, wine and classic and original cocktails are also available.
Here are some of the cocktails to expect:
- Guyanese Sour: aged rum, grilled pineapple, lemon, honey, cayenne chili syrup and Angostura bitters
- Burmese Mission: gin, lime, Thai basil, clementine togarashi syrup
- Taurino Garcia: mezcal, grapefruit, lime, Combier, Fernet-Vallet
- Freya: vodka, lemon, honeydew, mint, elderflower liqueur and sparkling rosé
Keep an eye out for more details on Ah Sing Den’s grand opening celebration set for September. The bar is opened daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 1100 E. Sixth St. For more information, visit facebook.com/ahsingden.
